چکیده

Dark matter direct and indirect detection signals depend crucially on the dark matter distribution. While the formation of large scale structure is independent of the nature of the cold dark matter (CDM), the fate of inhomogeneities on sub-galactic scales, and hence the present day CDM distribution on these scales, depends on the micro-physics of the CDM particles. We study the density contrast of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) on sub-galactic scales. We calculate the damping of the primordial power spectrum due to collisional damping and freestreaming of WIMPy CDM and show that free-streaming leads to a CDM power spectrum with a sharp cut-off at about 10M⊙. We also calculate the transfer function for the growth of the inhomogeneities in the linear regime, taking into account the suppression in the growth of the CDM density contrast after matter-radiation equality due to baryons and show that our analytic results are in good agreement with numerical calculations. Combining the transfer function with the damping of the primordial fluctuations we produce a WMAP normalized primordial CDM power spectrum, which can serve as an input for high resolution CDM simulations. We find that the smallest inhomogeneities typically have co-moving radius of about 1 pc and enter the non-linear regime at a redshift of 60±20. We study the effect of scale dependence of the primordial power spectrum on these numbers and also use the spherical collapse model to make simple estimates of the properties of the first generation of WIMP halos to form. We find that the very first WIMPy halos may have a significant impact on indirect dark matter searches.

A time-energy performance analysis of MapReduce on heterogeneous systems with GPUs

Motivated by the explosion of Big Data analytics, performance improvements in lowpower (wimpy) systems and the increasing energy efficiency of GPUs, this paper presents a time–energy performance analysis of MapReduce on heterogeneous systems with GPUs. We evaluate the time and energy performance of three MapReduce applications with diverse resource demands on a Hadoop–CUDA framework. As executi...

On-demand Isolated I/O for Security-sensitive Applications on Commodity Platforms

Today large software systems (i.e., giants) thrive in commodity markets, but are untrustworthy due to their numerous and inevitable software bugs that can be exploited by the adversary. Thus, the best hope of security is that some small, simple, and trustworthy software components (i.e., wimps) can be protected from attacks launched by adversary-controlled giants. However, wimps in isolation ty...

Improving Datacenter Energy Efficiency Using a Fast Array of Wimpy Nodes

Energy has become an increasingly large financial and scaling burden for computing. With the increasing demand for and scale of Data-Intensive Scalable Computing (DISC), the costs of running large data centers are becoming dominated by power and cooling. In this thesis we propose to help reduce the energy consumed by large-scale computing by using a FAWN: A Fast Array of Wimpy Nodes. FAWN is an...

Local multivariate outliers as geochemical anomaly halos indicators, a case study: Hamich area, Southern Khorasan, Iran

Anomaly recognition has always been a prominent subject in preliminary geochemical explorations. Among the regional geochemical data processing, there are a range of statistical and data mining techniques as well as different mapping methods, which serve as presentations of the outputs. The outlier’s values are of interest in the investigations where data are gathered under controlled condition...

Feedback Effects of First Supernovae on the Neighboring Dark Matter Halos

The first-generation stars in the ΛCDM universe are considered to have formed in dark halos with total masses in the range ∼ 10−10M⊙ at z ∼ 20−50. These stars expected to be very massive and in some cases they end their lives as the first supernovae (SNe). We explore the problem of whether star formation in low mass dark halos (6 10M⊙) was triggered or suppressed by the SN feedback from neighbo...
